Lemur Island lies south of Nosy Komba and is a 25 minute boat ride from Nosy Be.
Accommodation
Built on a steep hillside, nestling in a tropical garden between forest and beach, the eight lodges ranging in size from 75 to 95 m2 complete with verandahs overlooking the ocean are magnificently constructed in a streamline architectural style, from wood and traditional materials such as rosewood or sohihy, in shades of brown and subtle, complementary tones. The roofs are thatched with Ravinala leaves (from the Travellers' tree) and are high enough to allow air to circulate freely!
The rooms and the interior are generously sized, conducive to movement and meditation or perfect for rest and tranquillity. The elegant, warm decor combines refined style with the typical atmosphere of the place. The paintings displayed were created using lime and natural pigments from Madagascar. Each lodge boasts a large four-poster bed complete with mosquito net and fan, perfect for spellbinding, exotic nights or siestas, a comfortable, spacious bathroom and even a desk for those who feel the need to work!
Each detached, perfectly aired, private lodge has its own deck with a stunning view of the bay and Grande Terre. Watching the sun rise (very early!), marvelling at the unforgettable sunset or even catching the moon rising, all from the comfort of the seated area of the patio, becomes an enchanting experience!
Furthermore, the beautiful surroundings of the tropical garden which has embraced the lodges' presence, contributes to the unique feeling of calm and beauty which emanates from the area. The brightly coloured flowers vie for attention, the birds flutter discreetly and the foliage thrives at the mercy of the sea breeze. The beach below is visible and is easily accessible from each lodge.
Sunbeds with or without parasols are available for use at the water's edge, tempting those who want to take it easy.
There are two types of lodge available in this development which covers several hectares :
- Six “Ocean View“ lodges offering 75 m2 living space.
You can add an extra single bed, bringing the number of guests up to a maximum of 3 people per lodge.
- Two “Ocean View“ lodges offering 95 m2 living space.
You can convert the lounge into a bedroom, bringing the number of guests up to a maximum of 4 people per lodge.
In order to protect the environment, there is no television and no telephone in the lodges. However, there is an Internet access in the main lodge and network coverage for your mobile phone.
Dining
"Le TK" restaurant, "le TK bar" and the lounges are located in the main house which also has two open decks looking out onto the ocean for you to enjoy the splendid panoramic view of the bay and Madagascar's Grande Terre island just opposite!
Breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails are superb, so you can feast your eyes as well as your tastebuds!
The cuisine served in the restaurant blends Eastern and Western spices and flavours and fish and fresh local produce take pride of place. You will soon be familiar with common dolphinfish, yellow tuna, Jack Crevalle fish, barracuda and other Mackerel... you will also love the amazing prawns and giant crayfish, not forgetting the lobsters of course, depending on the season. As for the Zebu fillets - juicy, exquisite and cooked to your liking - the taste will stay with you forever!
Finally, a stunning array of pineapples, mangoes, bananas, papayas and lychees will arrive at your table to finish your meal on a fruity note.
All the products are exclusively bio and are in the service of a surprising, inventive and delicious food that will make you want to taste everything on the menu!
As an accompaniment to your meals (which always include a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts) we have a selection of French, South African and Madagascan wines for you to choose from.
Come to the bar or in the lounges, for a coffee, tea, cocktail, arranged rum or something stronger(!) and share your impressions and feelings about the marvellous moments you have already experienced or your plans for the next day. Simply contemplating the stunning bay and Tsaratanana mountains also fills many a long, quiet moment.

AT SEA
- Snorkel off the tiny island of Tanikely, which is protected as a nature reserve, and is home to dozens of species of multicoloured fish, turtles, starfish and shellfish.

- Cruise around the Mitsio archipelago
- Go deep sea, trolling, palangrotte or popper fishing
- Go traditional fishing (long line, squid fishing) in a pirogue
ON LAND
- Take a short hike with a guide, starting from the hotel, which will take you across the island from south to north. Go through the old Ylang ylang plantations and observe the black lemurs and (harmless!) snakes, butterflies and multicoloured birds, not to mention a wide range of flora. Return in a pirogue.
- Visit Nosy Be
- Visit the Ylang-ylang plantations, the distillery and the Ambanja market on Grande terre

They love their jobs and go about their work with a warm smile and plenty of enthusiasm, devoting a great deal of time and energy to your stay to make sure that you never forget your visit to Madagascar.

Sustainable Development
Tsara Komba Lodge is located in Nosy Komba, an island situated in the heart of one of the world's most diverse ecosystems. We seek to encourage respect for the environment in order that everyone may get the most from the exceptional biodiversity of this region, both today and in the future.
To do so, we work based on detailed procedures in order to maintain best practices such as recycling (with schemes in place to recycle metal, plastics and packaging as well as household waste), the use of environmentally friendly materials (such as commercially grown wood and local plants, etc). The prudent use of water, the absence of televisions, telephones and air-conditioning in the lodges in addition to an ongoing quest for added simplicity are all aspects of our efforts to minimize our impact on the environment.
At Tsara Komba Lodge, social responsibility is a way of life. As all of our employees are inhabitants of the neighbouring village, we offer them training in a hotel profession. Their salaries and the social benefits accompanying these have a major impact on the village's economy on an island on which employers are extremely rare. We provide our teams with high-quality training and payment of their health treatment by setting up a health fund just for the hotel, in addition to the local social services already available here.
As we see it, the creation of wealth and its redistribution are the founding principles underpinning our work each and every day. To achieve this, we purchase fish, seafood, local materials and plants locally on a daily basis, also recruiting our on-site labour and craftsmen locally, not to mention the maintenance staff for our lodges, therefore providing additional resources for the families of the neighbouring village, most of whose revenue comes from fishing and farming.
Additionally, thanks to our micro-loan scheme, we finance the pirogue boats so vital to the island’s fishing or travel activities, or the transportation of goods and people.
Finally, we are today providing active support to the neighbouring village located less than a kilometre from Tsara Komba Lodge and in the near future we will be attempting to upgrade local homes. While preserving the traditional local look, these homes will benefit from the installation of water, mosquito nets, toilets, not to mention a school and a library in a second time.
We are increasing our educational efforts among local people to encourage them to break the cycle of deforestation, a key aspect of slash-and-burn farming.
We firmly believe that our clients and travellers in general are all key players where sustainable development is concerned. Their stay at Tsara Komba Lodge offers a chance to discover another culture, but also the possibility to play an active part in its existence, its survival, and in our mutual development.
In the future, Tsara Komba Lodge will looking to play a major role, as the leader of a partnership with other organisations with the aim of continuing and boosting our efforts to protect the natural environment and to improve social help and support.
